Compliance Plans
NO ACCIDENTS RECENTLY. IS IT A SAFE WORKPLACE?
The
safety of a workplace is not measured by the occurrence of accidents
regardless of whether one has never occurred or they have been
infrequent. The safety of a workplace is based upon the effectiveness
of existing safeguarding to protect workers from potential injury. If
the potential for injury exists, then the hazardous situation leading
to an accident can simply be a matter of coincidence by a person
"being in the wrong place at the wrong time" which is not an
acceptable explanation for an accident in the workplace.
RISK
IS THE MEASURE OF SAFETY
It
is the assessment of risk that establishes the degree of safety for
an individual machine or process but it is ultimately the means of
risk reduction employed that determines the safety of workers within
the workplace. This general concept summarizes the perspective
required when addressing health & safety within the workplace but
application of the safeguarding solutions to achieve risk reduction
inevitably becomes problematic when considering the project scope. An
assessment involving multiple machines or a sophisticated process
must utilize an alternative approach.
WHERE
DO YOU START?
The
JEC Compliance Plan is the first step in overcoming the daunting task
of starting to address a large scale health & safety issues
within the workplace. The Compliance Plan will provide you with a
general "report card" style report on the state of multiple
machines or processes within your facility. This report can be of
assistance by aiding in the prioritization of areas requiring
attention that can be of importance for the following situations:
When dealing with
an extensive MOL order that has been issued covering many areas of a
facility and requiring compliance before a specified date.
Developing a
general understanding regarding the state of an entire facility when
no prior references exist.
Identifying
machinery where a pre-start review was applicable but not completed.
THE
FAST TRACK TO COMPLIANCE
The JEC Compliance Plan
will serve to simplify the assessment process and aid in directing
efforts towards issues based on their priority. The goal being; a
fast track to compliance.
